Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation is making a decisive move into artificial intelligence, announcing a new strategic partnership with OpenAI — the research company behind ChatGPT. The collaboration is aimed at integrating advanced AI capabilities into Fairway’s operations, promising faster innovation, enhanced workflow efficiency, and a more intelligent borrower experience.
According to Fairway leadership, this partnership is centered on leveraging AI for real-world impact — from automating complex internal tasks to improving how loan officers serve clients.
“OpenAI operates with the same pace and ambition that drives Fairway,” said Joy Johnson, Chief Strategy Officer. “This partnership gives us the ability to scale AI initiatives responsibly while protecting borrower data and maintaining our high service standards.”
Leadership Shift: Caleb Ondrusek to Head AI Strategy
To guide this new phase, Fairway has promoted Caleb Ondrusek to Executive Vice President of Technology and Innovation. Ondrusek, who has nearly 20 years in technology and seven years at Fairway, will spearhead the company’s AI strategy — working alongside loan originators and internal teams to build AI-powered tools tailored to mortgage professionals.
“My focus will be on transforming both the borrower journey and the internal experience for loan officers,” Ondrusek said. “AI gives us the opportunity to streamline processes, eliminate friction, and deliver more personalized interactions at every touchpoint.”
AI’s Growing Role in Mortgage Lending
Fairway’s move reflects a broader industry trend as lenders seek to modernize legacy systems with AI-driven solutions. By partnering directly with OpenAI, Fairway positions itself among the first major retail lenders to build proprietary platforms powered by enterprise-level AI.
